FUNERAL TRIBUTES VARIED REPRESENTATIONS SPORTS AND LOCAL BODIES Testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr R. T. Reid, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, was held in many walks of life was provided yesterday afternoon when a large gathering of personal friends and representatives of local government and sport paid their final tributes at the funeral. The mourners came from Auckland and suburbs and from Hamilton and other parts of the Waikato. In the chapel of W. H. Tongue & Sons the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. H. J. Lilburn, of St. James’ Presbyterian Church, and formerly of Hamilton, and the building could not accommodate all who were present. The procession to Waikumete consisted of more than 40 cars. The last rites at the crematorium were performed by Mr Lilburn. The Pall-bearers The principal mourners were Mrs Reid, who had returned from Australia by air on Saturday, and Mr Norman Reid, of Timaru, a nephew. The coffin was carried by the deputychairman of the Harbour Board, Mr Hendry Luke; Mr A. S. Sutherland, Waikato member of the board, who also represented the Waikato Racing Club; Mr G. H. Jew, secretary of the Waikato Trotting Club; Mr H. Grayson, Mr J. Lethbridge and Mr Norman Reid. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, was present on behalf of the Government. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates also attended, as did the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, accompanied by the Town Clerk, Mr J. Melling, and a number of city councillors. With Mr Luke was a full delegation of members and officials of the Auckland Harbour Board. The Auckland Harbour Board Employees’ Union and Social Welfare Club were also represented. Varied Representation Among principal representatives of other bodies were the following:— Auckland Hospital Board, Mr Allan J. Moody, chairman; Auckland Elec-tric-Power Board, Mr S. J. Harbutt, chairman; Waitemata Electric-Power Board, Mr W. R. T. Leighton; Auckland Transport Board, Mr W. H. Nagle, chairman; Auckland Savings Bank, Mr E. Anderson; Auckland Racing Club, the Hon. E. R. Davis, M.L.C.; Waikato Racing Club, Mr A. S. Sutherland; New Zealand Trotting Conference and Auckland Trotting Club, Mr E. G. Bridgens; New Zealand Trotting Association, Mr T. J. W. Buxton; Waikato Trotting Club, Mr A. O. Casey and Mr A. Ebbett; Thames Trotting Club, Mr J. Twohill; Dominion Wrestling Union, Mr A. Bunker. A number of other sports bodies were also represented. Nearly all the bodies mentioned sent wreaths, and others came from the Auckland Licensed Victuallers’ Association, shipping companies, Pan American Airways, Tasman Empire Airways, Waikato Hunt Club and Franklin and Rotorua Racing Clubs.
