THAT BLACK DRESS
NO NEED TO BE DOWDY A black dress is an absolute necessity in the wardrobe of the woman who would be well dressed. There are so many of those occasions when one is in. doubt about what is the correct thing to wear—and in almost every case a black dress will “see you through.’’ But useful though a black dress is it loses its freshness quicker than any other colour. In peace-time your favourite shop is the quickest way to remedy matters! In wartime it is another matter, but you needn't have a dowdy dress for all that. There are a score of ways in which black dresses can be brightened. The avalanche of collars and cuffs in all colours and styles is one way. Simple coloured wool decoration on cuffs, pockets, and neck is another. The addition of small decorative pockets which you can add yourself from an odd piece of silk or taffeta is another. A line or two or three even of coloured wool or silk stitches round the hem is another. The clover choice of suitable but inexpensive jewellery is another. If you have a dull black dress—don’t!
