PRICE INCREASES

GROCERY LINES TRIBUNAL AUTHORISATION OPERATION FROM TODAY (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Monday Real wages will be still further reduced as from today by increases in the prices of certain grocery lines. These advances in prices have been authorised by the Price Tribunal, but no allowance was made for the new sales tax in calculating the increase. The following is a list of the advances in prices:— Two-lb. tins meats, 3d a tin: 4oz. tins meat pastes. Id a tin: starch. Id lb.; baking powder. Id a tin; vanilla essence, Id a bottle; lemon essence, lad a bottle; floor polish, small, Id a tin: floor polish, largest, 4d a tin; mixed cake fruit, 2d a lb.; dried apricots, 2 crown, 2£d a lb.; dried apricots, 3 crown, 3£d a lb.; caustic soda, 21b. tins. 2d a tin; olive oil, small, 2d a bottle: fruit salad, 30oz. tins, 2£d a tin: shell grit, Is 6d a 1001 b.: stoned dates. Id a lb.; greaseproof paper, 2d a lb.; white newsprint, Id a lb.: wrapping paper, 5s 7d a cwt.; cap (bread) paper, 4s 7d a cwt. Spice manufacturers reported increases on all spices and herbs. The average rise was Id on loz. tins, and 2d on 2oz. tins of mace, sage, thyme, mixed herbs, mixed spice. Even the humble caraway seed will be dearer, having advanced from Is 6d to 2s 8d a lb. wholesale.
