SUNNY WEEK-END
RESERVES DRAW CROWDS SEVERE FROST THIS MORNING LOW JULY RAINFALL Glorious sunny weather drew thousands of people to parks and reserves yesterday. It was the first warm Sunday for many weeks. A popular resort was the Hamilton Lake Domain, where the golf course was crowded. Children built their sand castles, grown-ups sat in the sun, and two hardy youths enjoyed a swim. A severe frost was recorded at Ruakura this morning, 10.4 degrees being the reading. In Hamilton 8 degrees were recorded. This was the first frost since July 20, which was the last of a long succession of frosts. July has been an exceptionally dry month. Compared with the average rainfall of 4.83in., the fall this month amounts to 1.99in. With two and a-half days to go there is little sign of the deluge required to bring the July rainfall up to average. The barometer is unusually high at 30.50 in., and fair weather is indicated.
