M. AVENOL RESIGNS RETENTION UNJUSTIFIED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received July 27, 3.15 p.m.) GENEVA, July 26 The resignation of M. Avenol as Secretary-General of the League of Nations, will operate from August 31, after which a committee of three will handle League of Nations affairs. M. Avenol’s telegram states that the duties remaining to the League no longer justify the maintenance of high political direction. He is considering measures to ensure that the administrative work will continue.
