THEFT BY MAORI

ONE MONTH’S IMPRISONMENT A sentence of one month’s imprisonment was imposed on a Maori labourer, Taipara Nukunuku, aged 24, when he appeared before Messrs G. K. Sinclair and J. H. Gittos, J’s.P., in the Hamilton Police Court today on a charge of stealing £4 in money from Puke Tari. Accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert said that Nukunuku and Tari were staying at a boarding house with another man. Yesterday accused was left in the bedroom while the other two went to the bathroom, and on their return Tari found that the money was missing. Nukunuku later admitted the offence and £1 of the money was recovered. Accused had previously been before the Court. Restitution of the money was ordered.
