GRAND NATIONAL EVENTS STEEPLECHASE ACCEPTANCES 18 REMAIN IN HURDLES (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday Acceptances received for the three principal events at the August meeting, the Grand National Steeples, Grand National Hurdles and Winter Cup, total 65, against 63 last year. There were no surprise defections from the Nationals, but unexpected withdrawals from the Winter Cup are Royal Star 11. and Spanish Lad. The former was nominated for other handicaps at the meeting and no reason has been given for his Cup defection. Spanish Lad has also been nominated for other events.
