Waterfront Levy
The Waterfront Control Commission has issued an order that owners, agents or masters of ships shall, from time to time, pay to the commission a lev/ of 2 per cent on the total wages or earnings paid to waterside workers at the port of Auckland for the loading and unloading of cargo. The levy, will be applied to meet all salaries, wages and expenses in operating the waterfront labour bureau and pay offce, and will also provide a guaranteeed weekly minimum payment to waterside workers. A third use will be to cover such proportionate cost of the salaries and expenses of the commission and staff as may. from time to time, be determined by the commission.
