GAOL FOR RECTOR

SOUNDED CHURCH BELU ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, July 26 The Rev. R. G. C. Graham, rector of Old Bolingbroke, near Spilsbury, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to imprisonment for a month for contravening a defence regulation, which controls noise. He had sounded the church bell otherwise than for an authorised purpose. Last month it was ordered that church bells should be rung only as a warning of the presence of parachute invaders. The chairman of the magistrates said he believed Mr Graham had received notice from his bishop, forbidding the bell-ring-ing, which the Bench considered to have been intentional deliberate. Mr Graham’s wife was detained last week under a Home Office order.
