WOMEN’S DIVISION

TIRAU BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Tirau branch of the Women’s Division was held recently, there being a good attendance. The president reported that the Dominion conference had been cancelled this year. The competition for Scotch shortbread was won by Mrs J. W. Amoore, with Mrs Hewson second and Mrs Watkins third. For this meeting members had been asked to supply a humorous story, or pay a penny fine. The exchequer did not benefit to any extent, but some most amusing stories were told. Several members who had visited the Exhibition by the special ex-

cursion for Women’s Division members, entertained by relating various experiences that had befallen them. Mrs Hughes gave an amusing recitation. An enjoyable meeting closed with afternoon tea, the hostesses being Mesdames Bear, Kinnear, Litchfield and McLaren.

TE PUNINGA The Te Puninga branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union celebrated its sixth birthday recently in the local hall. This took the form of a patriotic bazaar, and proved to be a great success. Items were rendered by Miss L. Watson and Miss J. Kerr. Competitions were won by Mrs P. Flynn, Mrs , H. Tappin, Mrs R. Bell, Mrs R. Wil- ; son and Miss L. Watson. During ; afternoon tea, the president, Mrs H. Tappin, welcomed the visitors and thanked everyone for their support. Mrs I. Lewer then lit the candles, and Mrs A. Peek, of Tahuna, cut the cake.

In the evening dancing was enjoyed, music being supplied by Miss N. Kerr, and Mr L. Billman. Miss E. Boston played the extras, and Mr Billman was master of ceremonies. A novelty dance was won by Miss J. Roach and Mr J. Dobson.
