AUCKLAND COLLAPSE MATCH WITH WELLINGTON WALLACE BATS BRIGHTLY (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Saturday Auckland opened badly against Wellington in the Plunket Shield match at the basin reserve to-day, the first two wickets. Whitelaw and Pearson falling for 12 runs. Bright batting by Wallace, who reached 40 in quick time, improved matters somewhat but four wickets fell for 76. The weather was windy and overcast. CANTERBURY BATTING MATCH WITH OTAGO DONNELLY IN FORM (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday The weather was perfect for the Otago-Canterbury game. Canterbury won the toss and batted on a perfect pitch under a hot sun. Donnelly and Kerr opened to the bowling of Begg and Lemin. With three runs up there was a unanimous appeal and Kerr was out for a duck, caught behind off Lemin. o”Brien joined Donnelly, and the pair were soon forcing the pace and batting delightfully, hitting fairly frequent boundaries. Begg’s sixth over cost 11 runs and 50 was posted in 45 minutes.
