AMATEUR PLAYERS
TO TURN PROFESSIONAL Mr E. J. Tait, governing director of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., announced last week that Mrs John Hastings, a member of the Wellington Repertory Theatre Society, had been engaged as a member of Williamson’s New London Dramatic Company, which is to inaugurate a tour of New Zealand in Wellington tonight. Last year Mrs Hastings was entrusted with the title role in Noel Coward’s clever comedy, “The Marquise.”
Mi's Hastings will appear in the second comedy to be presented in Wellington, entitled “It’s a Wise Child.”
A second Repertory player, Mr Dewer McCormack, has been selected to play in the same company. Mr McCormack went to Wellington from Wanganui, where, as a member of the Repertory Society, he had met with considerable success in the main role of “Rope,” by Patrick Hamilton. Since his arrival in Wellington Mr McCormack has played a small part in “Lilliom,” and appeared with conspicuous success as the central character in “French Without Tears.”
