100th ANNIVERSARY
DECORATIONS IN HAMILTON REMINDER FOR CENTENNIAL Drawing attention to the fact that New Zealand is approaching the 100th anniversary of its inclusion in the British Commonwealth of Nations, a start was made with the decoration of the Chief Post Office, Hamilton. Flanking the main entrance, two pylons have been erected to be surmounted by a large blue and gold Centennial sign. The decorations being carried out on the post office are on similar lines to those used for the Coronation celebrations, but on a modified scale. The decorations will remain on the building, and flags will be flown on several other official buildings in the Waikato. On special days the same course will be adopted. The special days on which the decorations are to be used next year are as follows:—January 22, 100th anniversary of the landing of the first settlers in New Zealand, at Wellington; January 30, 100th anniversary of the arrival of Captain Hobson at Kororareka; February 6, 100th anniversary of the placing of the first signatures on the Treaty of Waitangi; June 5, 100th anniversary of the Proclamation over Stewart Island; June 17, 100th anniversary of the Proclamation over the South Island at Cloudy Bay; August 11. 100th anniversary of the first exercise of the Sovereignty over the South Island, at Akaroa; October 9, anniversary of the first landing in New Zealand of Captain Cook, in 1769; November 16, 100th anniversary of the separation of New Zealand from New South Wales.
