LOWERING OF LINES : NEW STATIONS
PROPOSALS ESTIMATED TO COST £648,300 DEPARTMENT’S PLANS BEFORE COUNCIL Another step in the proposed scheme to lower the railway line through Hamilton and build new stations and yards was reached last night when the department’s estimates of the costs concerned were tabled before the Hamilton Borough Council. The estimated cost of the whole scheme was stated to be £648,300 of which the Hamilton Borough Council's apportionment would be £174,000 although to include all the proposals of the council would mean an additional cost of £196,150. The estimated cost of the scheme proposed by the railway department, with no cost to the council, was £452,150. The borough engineer, Mr R. Worley tabled a report on the proposals and, on the motion of the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, it was decided to discuss the proposals at a special meeting of the council earl}' next year.
