CAMPAIGN IN FINLAND
MORE MEN CALLED UP BOMBING ACTIVITY 200 TANKS ABANDONED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 21, 3.15 p.m.) HELSINKI, Dec. 20 Men of 40 years of age have been called up for military service. About 100 Soviet planes flew over Helsinki, Viipuri, Hango, Turko and other areas for between four and five hours, a number of civilians was killed.
Incendiary bombs caused several fires at Viipuri and Turko. The coastal batteries drove off raiders at Kotka and shot down two near Viipuri. The intense cold has put out of action 200 Soviet tanks and transport vehicles on the Northern Front, they being abandoned when oil froze in the engines.
It is officially reported that the Russians south of Salmajarvi are using a new type of tank. It is fitted with a tractor propeller, resembling an aeroplane propeller enabling it to move more easily over the snow.
