NAVAL BASE
STRENGTHENED AT TRINIDAD REINFORCED BY VOLUNTEERS (Official Wireless) \ (Received Dec. 21, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Dec. 20 S Britain’s naval base at Trinidad , has been strongly reinforced by the j formation of a naval volunteer unit, ! which is now working at full ; strength. The Trinidad Naval Volunteers, as l the unit is called, was formed with- , out any recruiting campaign, but in I spite of that five times the number j of men required applied for enlist- j ment. The men are drawn from all parts J of the colony from Sangre Grande to ! Bago, San Fernando, Barataria and | Port of Spain. Many are yachtsmen and deep sea j fishermen. Some have served in the j Navy or the merchant marine. j The naval base which the volun- j teers have joined forms a self- , contained unit. The personnel in- ; eludes mechanics, carpenters, elec- j tricians, boat builders, cooks and j stewards, besides regular seamen. j
