Work at Garden Place The Hamilton Borough Council last night decided to lay sewers and conveniences in Garden Place, the excavation and construction work to be put in hand in conjunction with the excavation and construction of the transformer station. The £I4OO required for the work is to be provided out of the allocation in the estimates for permanent works.

Forest Lake Crossing Advice that instructions had been given to the effect that wagons were not to be loaded and unloaded near the Forest Lake level crossing was received at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night from the district manager for the Railways Department, Mr H. W. Beasley. The writer also stated that the erection of notice boards at the crossing had been arranged for.—The letter was received. Subscribed Before Issue The Dunedin City Council had intended to float a loan of approximately £120,000 in March of next year, the rate of interest being 4i per cent, but the loan has already been fully subscribed. Since June investors have been making inquiries about City loans, and have been pencilling in their requirements. These inquiries continued steadily up till a few days ago, when the amount required had been fully subscribed.

King’s Wish Respected In accordance with a wish expressed by the King that GovernorsGeneral and Governors should not attend race meetings during the war period, Lord and Lady Galway will not be present at either of the meetings at Auckland this summer. Their Excellencies will be in residence at Government House, Auckland, for several weeks, but the GovernorGeneral expects that during January he will travel frequently between Auckland and Wellington.

Borough Engineer Complimented Eulogistic reference to the report on the Hamilton railway scheme tabled by the engineer, Mr R. Worley, at the Hamilton Borough Council meeting last night was made by Mr J. E. Tidd, who stated that he was prepared to accept the engineer’s recommendation as it was. Adding that the report was most comprehensive, Mr Tidd complimented the engineer on his observations and the painstaking manner in which he had prepared the report.

Inter-Island Air Service For three weeks from December 24 until January 17 Union Airways’ trunk air service between Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin, now being operated on a tri-weekly basis, will be maintained daily each way from Mondays to Fridays. Although daily services will not be operated both ways on Saturdays and Sundays, between the dates mentioned, a northbound flight will be made on Saturdays and a southbound trip on Sundays.

Closing Victoria Street At a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council last night it was decided to rope off Victoria Street tomorrow night from 6.30 p.m. until 11 p.m., from Hood Street to Ward Street and at the intersection with Collingwood Street, and to close the area to motor traffic. It was also stated at the meeting that the Garden Place area would be available for parking tomorrow night. No objection was offered to the request of the Citizens’ Band that it be permitted to play in Victoria Street tomorrow night.
