SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED Several members of the Raglan Red Cross Society visited Bryant Home recently, when bridge, five hundred and ping pong were played with the soldiers. A happy evening was spent, which concluded with community singing. The visitors were welcomed by Mr D. Bryant, Mr R. H. Cushman responding on behalf of the visitors. Supper was later served. It is the intention of the Red Cross Society to arrange weekly entertainments while Bryant Home is being used for convalescent soldiers. END-OF-TERM SOCIAL Parents and old pupils were guests
at the end-of-term social arranged by the secondary pupils of the Raglan District High School and held in the Town Hall. The guests were re- ; ceived by Mr and Mrs J. C. Hall, the latter wearing a floral georgette frock in autumn tonings. Dancing, items and competitions were enjoyed and a delicious supper was served by the pupils. The supper tables were charmingly decorated in the school’s colours, blue and gold. Music for dancing was played by Mrs C. Hird, Mrs G. Thomson, Miss Penlington and Mr J. C. Hall. A novelty waltz was won by Mr C. H. Marcroft and Mrs H. Taylor, and a statue dance by Miss Joan White and partner. Items were given by Misses Beth Moore and Margaret Gibbison (songs), Miss Lola Simmons (tap dance), and Miss Shirley Marcroft (recitation). An amusing play was given by Miss Joan Litchwark, Miss Shirley Pointon, Miss Shirley Marcroft, Masters L. Peart and T. Jackson. During the evening a Higher Leaving Certificate was presented to Miss Isabella Jackson, who is the first pupil from the Raglan School to enter Training College.
