BRILLIANT FEAT BY BRITISH SUBMARINE
ATTACKER ENTERS STRONGLY FORTIFIED AREA (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Cooyright) LONDON, Dec. 18 Another German cruiser has been destroyed by the British Navy. The Admiralty announces that the submarine Ursula reports having torpedoed and sunk a 6000-ton cruiser of the Koln class in the mouth of the River Elbe last Thursday. At the lime of the torpedoing the cruiser was being escorted by a screen of six destroyers. It was evidently a brilliant feat, as the attacking submarine had to enter a strongly fortified area, the scene of the sinking being between the heavily fortified bases of Cuxhaven and Brunsbuttel, where machines of the Royal Air Force some time ago carried out daring and successful raids.
This latest success is in no way connected with the torpedoing of a German cruiser last week by the submarine which spared the liner Bremen.
There are three cruisers of the Koln class, the Koln, Konigsberg and Karlsruhe. They carry a complement of about 570 officers and men, nine 5.9in. guns, 12 21in. torpedo tubes and smaller armament, and two aeroplanes. They have a top speed of more than 32 knots.
