NEW COMMANDER
SALVATION ARMY HEAD FOR NEW ZEALAND (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Lieutenant-Commissioner J. Evan Smith, territorial commander for Wales and the Western Territory of the United Kingdom, has been appointed territorial commander of the New Zealand Salvation Army, stated a cable received by Lieuten-ant-Colonel Grattan, chief secretary, from the London headquarters, today. The appointment was made by General Carpenter, the new Commander of the Salvation Army. The new Comissioner, who was born in London served the founder of the Army, General William Booth, in a secretarial capacity and for many years was private secretary. He saw work in many lands, including New Zealand, became chief secretary in South Africa in 1931, and was appointed territorial commander of Wales and Western Territory three year* ago.
