FRIESIAN BREEDERS
NEW MEMBERS ELECTED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Friday Members from Taranaki, Auckland, Canterbury and Otago were among those present at a general meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association. Mr R. S. Tait moved: ‘ That the ward system of election of members of the council be instituted.” An amendment, moved by Mr G. H. Hassall and seconded by Mr R. F. Dickie, that the council be asked to consider the question and present a report at the next annual meeting, was carried. Cups given by the association, which are to become the property of winners, were presented by the president as follows:—Champion bull, A. J. Rainey (Kaiapoi); cow, J. J. Stott (Oamaru); Grigg Jubilee Cup and Breeders (senior group), J. Brown (Wainewa). Twenty-eight new members were elected and 14 herd names registered at a subsequent meeting of the council. The Friesian Association prizemoney for the 1939 Derby was fixed at £SO. Mr F. H. Hammond (Richmond, Nelson) was appointed official judge. Messrs J. J. Stott (Oamaru), McHattie (Outram), D. H. Kennedy (Windsor) and James Woodbridge (Auckland) were also appointed, subject to passing a practical judging test.
A remit from the Canterbury branch stating that conditions governing the official test should be altered to permit the use of bail releasers was approved, and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the New Zealand Jersey Association in bringing the matter before the director of the Dairy Division.
