VICTIMS OF RAIDER

NINE BRITISH VESSELS TWO IN NEW ZEALAND SERVICE DORIC STAR AND TAIROA (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 14 The British Consulate-General at Montevideo announced that the Admiral Graf Spee’s victims were the Clement (5051 tons), Newton Beech (4651), Ashlea (4222 tons), Huntsman (8196 tons), Trevanion (5299 tons), Africa Shell (706 tons), Doric Star (10,086 tons), Tairoa (7893 tons), and Streonshalh (3895 tons). The Africa Shell was sunk off East Africa, the Streonshalh in the South Atlantic and the remainder off the coast of South America. The sinking of the British 5051ton cargo steamer Clement in the South Atlantic early in October has definitely been attributed to the Admiral Graf Spee. By the announcement of the warship’s .sinkings a solution has also been found to the disappearance of four British steamers which the Admiralty this week had to consider lost. They were the Ashlea, Huntsman, Trevanion and Newton Beech. One of the older units of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Line, the twinscrew steamer Tairoa, of 7983 tons gross, was en route from Melbourne to the United Kingdom when she was sunk. She is the second ship employed in the produce trade from New Zealand and Australia to have been lost, the other vessel being the Blue Star steamer Doric Star, which was sunk early this month off the African coast when bound from Auckland to England. During her raiding career the Admiral Graf Spee accounted for nine British ships of an aggregate gross tonnage of 50.089. the largest being the Doric Star (10,086).
