Mr C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, returned from Wellington this morning. Captain R. F. Spragg, has been transferred from the 4th Field Battery to the Second Medium Battery. Mr A. L. Lewis, recently appointed airport manager for Pan American Airways at Auckland, arrived from Noumea yesterday morning. The Rev. Fathers J. McCarthy (Auckland), J. Leahy (Wellington) and G. Marinovich (Auckland) ara visiting Hamilton. Messrs A. J. Laing, T. M. Paterson and J. W. Reeves have been gazetted as second lieutenants in the Waikato Mounted Rifles. Messrs W. G. Pearce (Taumarunui), K. Smith (Otorohanga), L. J. Verry and R. W. Verry (Auckland), are at the Hamilton Hotel. Captain C. E. Howden, M.R.C.S., (Eng.) L.R.C.P., (London) has been recalled from the retired list and has been appointed senior medical officer at Hopu Hopu, with the temporary rank of Major. Mr A. W. Thompson, headmaster of the Terrace End School, Palmerston North, is retiring from the position of acting-inspector of schools in the Wanganui Education Board’s district at the end of the year. Mr H. A. Gilbert, son of the Rev. and Mrs H. G. Gilbert, of Hamilton, who has completed his medical examinations at the Otago University, has received an appointment with the Auckland Hospital Board. The Right Rev. Monsignor H. Holbrook and the Right Rev. Monsignor J. Carhill, F.G.P.A., of Auckland, are visitors to Hamilton for an ordination ceremony in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary to-mor-row. The Right Rev. Dr. J. M. Liston, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, is visiting Hamiton. He will be the presiding prelate at the ordination of the Rev. Peter Battersby in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary to-morrow morning.

Lieutenant T. P. Laffey, who has been adjutant at Hopu Hopu, has been transferred as adjutant at Papakura and is granted the temporary rank of Captain. Lieutenant and Quartermaster T. J. Cronin, N. Z. Permanent Staff, has been appointed adjutant and quartermaster at Hopu Hopu.
