Refreshing Shower A light shower was experienced in the Waikato early this morning, but the recording for the 24 hours up to 9 o’clock this morning was only .10ins. The rain freshened gardens in the town and should further stimulate growth, which has been very satisfactory this spring. Raglan Regatta Advice has been received from Union Airways that provided the weather conditions are favouable, the southbound Lockheed will fly over the scene of the Raglan regatta at a safe height. This was carried out last year, when the gesture was greatly appreciated by the big crowd. Fall From Stack Falling from an ensilage stack while assisting on a neighbour’s farm, Mr A. C. Turtley, of Te Kawana Road, Te Aroha, broke both wrists. After receiving medical attention he was conveyed to his home. Appeal to Householders The National Patriotic Board issues a reminder that the money sought to provide comforts for soldiers is required by next Friday, December 22, and urges householders to forward their half-crowns, in stamps or by postal note, to the headquarters of the fund. All money collected will be carefully controlled and used only to supply comforts and recreational facilities for the troops. Conscription Not Favoured The Wellington Trades Council of the New Zealand Federation of Labour has passed a resolution that in view of propaganda by the Press and the National Party, that the Government introduce conscription for overseas was service, it places on record its endorsement of a statement by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, that the Government would not introduce conscription for overseas service. Tower Post Box A novel postal service at the Centennial Exhibition is creating considerable interest among visitors, who are able to post letters at the top of the 175 foot tower. The box is cleared at 3.30 p.m. daily, and all letters in it are specially post-mark-ed by the Centennial Exhibition Post Office in the Government Court. It is necessary to leave about two inches of space on the left hand edge of the envelope to allow room for the rubber stamp.
Danger to Stock The dangerous spreading of hemlock in Hawke’s Bay was again brought home to stock-owners when for tne second time in a week a horse was found dead in Napier, presumably as the result of having eaten some of the weed while grazing on the roadside. Hemlock was recently declared a noxious weed by the hawK.es hay county Council, after, widespread concern had been expressed at its prevalence in Napier and other districts.

Peter Battersby, an old pupil of the Hamilton Marist Brothers’ School, in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary tomorrow morning will mark another milestone in the history of the Catholic Church in the Waikato. The ordination will be the first Catholic ceremony of its kind held in the district. The large attendance expected at the church tomorrow will include priests from many parts of the Dominion. The new capacious sanctuary at the church will enablethe ceremony to be carried out in full detail. Stranded Wrestlers The necessity for professional wrestlers visiting New Zealand under contract to independent promotors insisting upon return fares being paid, was emphasised by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, yesterday. He issued a warning that wrestlers entering into contracts with promoters other than the Dominion Wrestling Union should ask for their keep in New Zealand as well as their fares out of the country. The Minister said that since the close of the wrestling season four wrestlers came to New Zealand under contract to an independent promoter. The tour, he added, was a financial failure, and he was approached on behalf of two of the men to assist them to leave the country. The Government was unable to grant the request. “I wish to make it clear,” the Minister continued, “that the tour under notice was not sponsored by the Dominion Wrestling Union.”
