GLAMOUR GIRLS

COMPETITION IN HOLLYWOOD DOROTHY OR PATRICIA? Hollywood can always depend upon dramatic fireworks when oldfashioned rivalry breaks out between a couple of glamour girls. Back in the silent days it was Lilyan Tashman and Hedda Hopper who clashed, then later Joan Crawford and Jean Harlow vied for the glamour queen’s crown. The current contenders are Dorothy Lamour and Patricia Morison. It is not that the girls dislike each other, but they are both extremely conscious of the fact that all Hollywood is watching to see which eclipses the other.

Dorothy and Patricia are opposite types, which makes the fight keener. Half Hollywood regards Patricia as the lovelier of the two. The other half votes for Dorothy. Dorothy is an expert crooner, Pat has always been an exponent of operatic singing.

As to which is the better actress, the voting seems to go in favour cf Patricia, for she has a background of New York stage appearances. Just the other day the rivalry between the two sent up its biggest yet cloud of sparks when Paramount announced that Dorothy Lamour, who had been scheduled to co-star with Ray Milland in “ Untamed,” was being switched to another job, and that the role had gone to Patricia Morison.
