WOOL AT TIMARU
ADVANCE ON LAST YEAR CUP IN LIGHTER CONDITION (By Telegraph.— Pre*n Association) TIMARU, Friday The first Timaru wool appraisement under the British Government’s purchase scheme was* concluded on Thursday, entailing the examination of 13,326 bales. Prices on an average show an advance of between 2d and 3d on the proceeds of the December sale last year. The wool generally was lighter in condition than last year and a fair proportion wasty and tender. Top price. 17£d, went to a line of fine halfbred, while a choice line of Merino hogget brought 17Jd. Super Merino made 16d, as against 14d in December, 1938. At the opening sale last year extra super halfbred brought up to 15d, whereas this week this class of wool was appraised at 17£d. An increase of 23d was noticed for super halfbred. Medium halfbred, as against last year’s price, shows an increase of 3£d. Following is the range of prices:— Merino.—Super, 15d to 16d; average, 12d to 14d; inferior, 9d to lid. Fine Haflbred (56-58). —Extra super, to 17£d; super, 15d to 16£d: average, 13d to 143 d; inferior, 9d to 12d. Medium Halfbred (50-56). —Super, 15d to 16d; average, 121 d to 14d. Fine Crossbred (48-50). —-Extra super, to 16£d; super, 14d to 15d; average, 12d to 13£d; inferior, lOd to llfd. Medium Crossbred (46-48). —Extra super, to 14£d; super, 13d to 13.? d; average. 12d to 123 d; inferior, lid to ll*d. Coarse Crossbred (44-46).—Super, to 13£d: average, ll£d to 12£d; inferior, 9£d to lid. Crossbred (40-44). —Suner, 10£d to 12d: average. 9id to 10£d. Leicester.—lOd to 13d.
