ANONYMOUS EFFORT

FUNDS FOR ORPHANAGE BUILDING OPENED IN NORTH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WHANGAREI, Friday An orphanage for Protestant children of Northland was officially opened yesterday afternoon, marking culmination of efforts on the part of a gentleman who wishes to remain anonymous. Some years ago he bought 20 acres of land adjacent to Whangarei, and gave £IOOO as an endowment for the maintenance of an orphanage, provided the building were erected free of debt. As the public response was very tardy he subsidised £ for £ public subscriptions up to £6OO. This was raised mainly through the children’s page of the Northern Advocate, and a women's committee completed the furnishings. The building is modern in every respect and the site ideal.
