Ashwin Wing-Commander A. de T Nevili. Lieutenant-Colonel S. H. Crump and’ Paymaster Lieutenant-Commander H R. Sleeman are gazetted members of the Canteen Board. Professor J. A. Bartrum, professor of geology at Auckland University College, was yesterday granted leave by the college council for the fir*t term next year. Professor Bartrum will visit the United States. Mr P. Drummond, who is retiring after 39 years' teaching service at the Auckland Grammar School, was honoured at a luncheon arranged in Auckland by the Old Boys’ Association yesterday. Mr T. Clifton Webb, president of the association, presented Mr Drummond with a desk, a chair and an inscribed inkstand. Mr M. G. Cooper, B. Agr. Sc., B. Litt. (Oxon), Diploma in Rural Economy (Oxon), a graduate of Massey College and a Rhodes Scholar, has been appointed lecturer in dairy husbandry at Massey College. He succeeds Dr. C. P. McMeekan, also a Massey College graduate, who has been appointed to the chair of Agriculture (animal husbandry) at Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln.

The Rev. Peter Battersby, son of Mrs E. Battersby, of Hamilton, and the late Mr W. Battersby, will be ordained priest in the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary on Sunday morning. The Rev. Battersby, who is an old pupil of the Hamilton Marist Brothers’ School, will be the first Catholic priest to be ordained in the Waikato.
