Two years to a day alter he was brought to Hollywood by a talent coach, John Hubbard started working in his first role, opposite Joan Bennett, in “The Housekeeper's Daughter,” Hal Roach’s latest picture. Hubbard was discovered in a repertory theatre in Chicago. Some months at Paramount brought Hubbard small roles; then came a period at M.G.M. under the hand of Mervyn Leßoy who renamed him Anthony Allen. This was the name under •which he got screen credit for his work in “Dramatic School,” the recent Luise Rainer film. Now John Hubbard, using his real name again, is set for an important picture career. Producer Hal Roach was so taken with the personality and acting ability of young Hubbard that he persuaded the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio to allow him to take over his contract.
