“MESSIAH” PRESENTED

BAPTIST CHOIR’S PERFORMANCE A presentation of Handel's “Messiah” was given by the Baptist Chorus Choir in the Baptist Church, London Street, last night. The hall was crowded and the presentation was appreciatively received. The soloists were as follows: j Soprano: Mrs Clinton Williams j (Auckland Tabernacle); contralto: 1 Miss Lorna Clark, Mrs G. Clifford Reay; tenor: Mr Ron Enright; bass: ; Mr S. Clinton Williams (Auckland Tabernacle). Mr R. Wilson (Auck- ! land) was at the organ. Mrs R. G. P. Brownlees, who was j to have been one of the soprano ! soloists, was unable to take her place owing to indisposition, and her solos ; were taken by Mrs Clinton Williams, j The conductor was Mr George : Salthouse. A visit was paid by Mr , A. E. Wilson, organist and choir- j master at the Auckland Tabernacle, J to whom Mr Salthouse handed the j baton for the final chorus. Before j conducting the chorus, Mr Wilson ; congratulated Mr Salthouse and the choir on the excellent performance ! given. The speaker hoped that next ; year the Hamilton choir would be able to join with the Auckland choir ! in a mass presentation of the “Messiah.” The speaker also commented on the finish and sympathy with 1 which the soloists played their parts i in the presentation
