MARIST SCHOOL

SUCCESSFUL YEAR LIST OF AWARDS A highly successful year’s work was brought to a close this morning when the annual “break-up” ceremony took place at the Marist Brothers’ High School. In the course of his report the Principal, the Rev. Bro. Remigius, stressed the need, particularly in these days, for spiritual values, and for aiming at high ideals. Particular stress was laid upon the number of sacerdotal and religious vocations which had come from the school alumni, special reference being made to the forthcoming ordination of the Rev. Peter Battersby, who would be ordained priest next Sunday by Bishop Liston. A comprehensive survey was given of the cultural, intellectual and sporting activities of the school. The work in the school experimental garden plots was eulogistically mentioned. The Rev. Father Bleakley, who presided and presented the awards, in the course of a stimulating address gave practical advice, particularly to the older students, who were urged to be men of character, faithful to principle, and to the high ideals put before them during their school course. The exchange of felicitations between masters and pupils brought the function to a close.
