WOOL VALUES
MARLBOROUGH APPRAISAL £75,000 FOR GROWERS (Special to Times) BLENHEIM, Wednesday The following report was presented by one of the firms whose wool was among the first of the 5200 bales handled at Blenheim undei the Government’s appraisal scheme: “The majority of wools from the district did not open up as attractively as last season, being lighter in condition and showing more tenderness, due no doubt to the dry autumn experienced. As anticipated, finer wool showed a decided increase in price compared with the previous season, while stronger grades have not shown the same proportionate increase, but it is hoped, generally speaking, that the realisations will prove satisfactory to the growers. “Marked increases in Merino and fine halfbred were registered, the former reaching the high price of 20£d, while the latter realised up to 17id.” It is estimated the amount which will be paid out to Marlborough growers in a fortnight will be about £75,000.
