STRANGE STORY

IS HITLER MARRIED? COLOURLESS LOVE AFFAIR ACTING AS A WIFE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 14, 3.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 13 The New York Saturday Post, in an article headed “Is Hitler Married?” declares that Eva Helen Braun, a 28-year-old blonde daughter of a Bavarian professor, has occupied the position of a regular hausfrau in Hitler’s Berlin residence since August, conducting herself as Hitler’s wife. It adds that the colourless love affair has continued for a decade. Hitler has been compelled to devote his time to soothing the feelings of the girl’s family, which felt that he had compromised her. The Post, in an editorial note, says: “Materials for the article came from sources inside Germany. We have always found them dependable.” SENSATIONAL REPORT DENIAL BY BRITISH EMBASSY H.M.S. ACHILLES MENTIONED REPORTED NAVAL ENGAGEMENT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 14, 3.55 p.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 13 The Buenos Aires correspondent of the American Press says the British authorities there are unable to confirm a report that H.M.S. Achilles, of the New Zealand station, has been sunk, and hinted that the enemy is responsible for the rumour. MONTE VIDEO, Dec. 13 British, German and Uruguayan officials state that they have no information of a reported naval battle. Officers of a Japanese steamer which passed through the area which was reported to be the scene of the battle saw or heard nothing of it. BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 13 A British Embassy spokesman said it can definitely be stated that there is no truth in reports of the sinking of the Achilles.
