HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY OFFICERS AND STEWARDS (Special to Times) MORRINSVILLE, Wednesday The annual meeting of the Morrinsville Horticultural Society was Held last night, the president, Mr C. S. Brown, being in the chair. Reviewing last year’s work, Mr Brown said the 1929 show had been most successful .all exhibits being of a high standard. The society concluded the year with a credit balance of £4 3s lid. Officers elected for the ensuing year were as follows:—Patron. Mrs Robert Scott. Snr.: president, Mr C. S. Brown; vice-presidents. Mrs F. P. Donny, Sir Stephen Allen. Dr. C. H. King, Messrs E. W. Massey, J. M. Allen. M.P., W. S. Goosman. M.P., E. A. Vowles, A. J. Shepherd. W. N. Tangye, W. J. Aitken; committee. Mesdames R. C. Gray, B. P. Welsh, A J. Shepherd. H. Annesley Smith. Misses V. Clifford. A. Seales, Messrs A. G. Scott, J. E. Lawson, J. A. Sanders, A. J. Shepherd; secretary, Mr H. Bacon; treasurer. Mr A. J. Shepherd. Stewards were appointed as follows:—In charge of hall. Mr J. W. Jackson; fruit and vegetables, Messrs R. G. Gray and A. J. Shepherd; cut owers. Messrs A. G. Scott and J. A. Sanders; home industries. Mesdames H. Annesley Smith and B. P. Welsh: decorative, Miss A. Seales; arts and crafts, Miss V. Clifford. PHYSICAL CULTURE There was an attendance of about 500 people to witness the physical culture display given under the auspices of the Morrinsville Physical Welfare Committee, IThe chief exhibition of interest was a game of indoor basketball between an allAmerican team and a Waikato team, Waikato winning by 35 goals to 30. A clever display of gymnastics was given by a team of athletes from the Hamilton Y.M.C.A., under the direction of Mr L. Cross. Other exhibitions were:—Boxing: J. Reid v. C. Marr; C. Smith v. G. Roper. Wrestling: G. Spice v. A. Begbie; P. Monklev v. R. Peakin. Mr A. Kelley, president of the Morrinsville Physical Culture Club, was in charge of the proceedings. The boxing was controlled by Mr S. Bloomfield, wrestling by Mr F. Hubbgrd, and fencing by Mr V. Pole. A competition was won by the Nicholson Hardware team. The proceeds will be used in producing gymnasium equipment.
RECRUITING PROGRESS During the week ten men have registered at the Morrinsville Drill Hall, and registrations for the district number 252. The additional names are:—J. W. Gyde (Te Aroha), A. MacDonald (Kiwitahi), P. Harrison (Turanga-o-Mcana, Matamata), D. J. Molesworth (Peria, Matamata), W Doherty (Tokoroa), A. W. Kinsella (Pairere, Tirau), W. F. P. Goodison (Waitoa), E. N. CLAY Bl£tD SHOOTING At the Morrinsville Gun Club’s first shoot for the year a 10-bird . shoot was held for trophies. Results were as follows: Eyeopener, Five Birds: W. Sharp (17yds), possible. Five-bird Handicap: Possibles, J. j C. Faucett, 13yds; W. Sharp, 17yds; j E. C. Allison, 13yds; T. Elliott, 17yds j Seven-bird Handicap: Possible: J. j C. Faucett, 13yds; W. J. Aitken, 15yds; T. Elliott, 17yds. Ladies Trophies, ten Birds: A. Aitken, 18yds, shooting for Mrs J. Aitken, and E. C. Allison, 13yds, shooting for Mrs A. Aitken, eight birds each. Trophy shoot, 12 Birds: A. Aitken, 188yds, 11 birds. Seven-bird Sw T eep: Possibles, W. Sharp, 17yds; C. Webber, 18yds; A. Aitken, 20yds. Gimcrack, seven Birds: E. C. Allison, 11 to 21yds, W. Sharp, 13 to 17yds, J. C.
