NATIONAL CLUB
JOLLY CHRISTMAS DANCE A jolly Chirstmas dance and card evening was held by the National Club recently at the club rooms, when members and their friends spent a very convivial evening. Holly, streamers, balloons and Christmas bells imparted a festive note to the dance hall, where dancing was enthusiastically enjoyed to music supplied by Sid Strange’s band. A large number of card players were assembled in the lounge, which had been artistically arranged with bowls of gladioli and holly. The competitions were won by Mrs B. E. Haverbier, Mrs S. Nolan an£ Miss Heather Gordon. The guests were received by Mr A. W. Moore,, vice-president, and by Mrs Moore, who was wearing a frock of black taffeta. Mrs Hallyburton Johnstone was in a frock of cherry ninon. Members of the committee present were:—Mrs H. Finlayson, wearing cigar brown crepe; Mrs A. Speedy, black floral craquelle; Mrs D. D. Wilson, floral marquisette; Misses Doris Eyre, pink lace and georgette, and J. Coulthard, black taffeta and floral coatee. Among those present were:—Mesdames W. T. Luxton, O. B. Bell, W. Reid, W. Very mysterious to mere man is a lady’s purse at any time, and what she is able to secrete there is amazing.* if one is able to judge from the result of a competition which helped to while away the time at a certain social gathering in Palmerston North of recent date. The winner, on emptying the contents on to a table, found that the articles, which varied from receipts to money and cosmetics, numbered IQS.
