PATRIOTIC FUNDS
REGULATIONS AMENDED STAMP DUTY EXCEPTION APPROVED PURPOSES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday Several amendments to the patriotic purposes emergency regulations are published with to-night’s Gazette. They mostly affect only routine matters, such as travelling allowances and expenses lor members ol the National Council and the National Patriotic Fund Boaid, and accounting operations on the National Patriotic Fund Account. One regulation, however, exempts from stamp duty cheques and receipts given by any persons or bodies duly appointed under the original regulations, while another provides that centennial organisations may contribute to patriotic funds any moneys not being used for centennial purposes, providing the consent of the Minister has been gained for such transfer. Purposes Defined Another measure affecting the patriotic purposes emergency regulations is also contained in to-night’s Gazette. It constitutes a declaration by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, as to what shall be approved patriotic purposes under the regulations. These are defined as the supply during the war of comforts, conveniences and special equipment to members of the naval, military and air forces of Britain or the British Dominions or mandated territories. The declaration applies to national patriotic funds and all provisional patriotic funds established under the regulations.
So that efforts of patriotic councils throughout the Dominion may be co-ordinated and the funds raised distributed to the best advantage, a conference of representatives was held at Wellington to-day. It will formulate plans for future operations and report to the Minister.
