STRUCK BY TRAIN
FARMER’S NARROW ESCAPE CAR SMASHED TO PIECES fSDeclal to Times) PALMERSTON N. Thursday Mr R. D. Knight, farmer, of Longbum, had a miraculous escape from serious injury at Longburn late this afternoon when the car he was driving was struck by a train. Mr Knight was emerging from a side road on to the main highway, • which necessitated crossing the railway line. He , said he neither saw nor heard the approach of the train. The impact smashed the car to pieces, but all the driver suffered was a bruise on the leg. He had as a passenger, Miss Harding, who lives with Mr and Mrs Knight, and she was equally fortanate, suffering bruises only. The collision crippled the engine of the train, which had to be sidetracked and another obtained from Palmerston North.
