NAZI TACTICS?
THE BOMB EXPLOSION HITLER DISTRESSED TOTALITARIAN WAR • United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. CopyrlirtU) (Received Nov. 10, 11.15 p.m.) ZURICH, Nov. 9 Reports from Germany indicate that people are puzzled as to why the bomb was not timed to explode in the middle of the meeting, leading to the suspicion that it may have been an attempt to rally the country, similarly to the burning of the Reichstag Chamber. It is known that anti-Nazis are already being rounded up. Herr Himmler desires a trial on the lines of the Reichstag inquiry to demonstrate that the explosion was the work of a foreign country. Monarchists have fallen under suspicion. It is also suggested that air attacks on Britain will be a possible reprisal. Hitler was told of the explosion when he was en route to Berlin. He was deeply distressed and said it must have been the work of foreign agents. It was the first time news of attempts on Hitler’s life have been published, though there have been at least three previously. BASLE, Nov. 9 The National Zeitung says it is difficult to resist the suspicion that the explosion was an attempt to justify the opening of a totalitarian war against Britain.
