DRAINAGE WORK
PURCHASE OF DREDGE TAUPIRI BOARD MEETS At the monthly meeting of the Taupiri Drainage Board to-day, when Mr L. R. W. Reid presided, it was decided to negotiate with the local office of the Public Works Department for the purchase of a small dredge, which could be used for maintenance and other work. A small committee was appointed to carry out the negotiations and to report to the next meeting of the board. Three applications for subsidies under the No. 13 Scheme were considered. It was decided to write to the Minister of Labour, asking him to give favourable consideration to applications from drainage boards under the scheme, as the work extended over many properties and drainage boards were better able to apportion and collect the costs. The Minister was also to be asked to facilitate the supply of men for this work.
Acting on a letter from the Department of Internal Affairs in explanation of the Municipal Associations’ Act, 1939. under the conditions of which members of river boards
are able to be insured against accident, the meeting instructed the secretary to write to the State Fire Office for particulars of such insurance. In a letter from the State Advance* Corporation, which was tabled at the meeting, suggestions were made as to a conversion scheme for the balance k of the Woodlands loan, with a view to easing the annual burden of loan charges.
