NOVEL ROAD SIGN

WARNING TO MOTORISTS HOPU HOPU CAMP AREA RESTRICTION AT NIGHT Owing to the unusual nature of the speed restrictions on the Great South Road in the vicinity of the Hopu Hopu camp, which provides for a limit of 30 miles an hour during the hours of darkness only, a novel type of road sign has been designed for the road, to operate at night only. Designed by the Public Works Department, the signs will shortly be completed and they will be erected at an early date on the boundaries of Taupiri and Ngaruawahia.

Constructed of glass and illuminated internally by a time switch, the sign will not be visible during the day and so should not cause confusion to motorists. The sign will be approximately Bft high and will be visible for at least 20 chains.

The motor-cars of traffic inspectors patrolling the area will be fitted with illuminated signs, "30 m.p.h.” These signs will be visible through the rear window of the patrol car and should act as a warning.
