PROBATION FOR MAORI
CONVERTED A MOTOR-CYCLE OFFENCE AT KAIPAKI Convicted by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, to-day on a charge of converting to his own use a motorcycle valued at £SO, the property of David Lloyd Barr, of Kaipaki, Selwyn Beazley, a half-caste Maori, aged 22, of no fixed abode, was admitted to probation for one year and was ordered to pay £5 damages. The case for the police was conducted by Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert. David Lloyd Barr, farm hand, of Kaipaki, said that yesterday he reported to the police that his motorcycle was stolen on November 7. Beazley called on witness at his place of employment on November 7 and said that he wanted to go to Te Awamutu to collect some money. Witness did not give permission for his motor-cycle to be removed, but when he returned to the house he found that the machine had gone. His gloves and helmet were also missing from his room. A statement in which Beazley admitted using the motor-cycle to go to Te Awamutu and then to Hamilton was read in Court. SeniorSergeant Lambert said that accused had not previously been before the Court.
