ACCESS TO FARMS
FACTOR IN PRODUCTION USE OF MODERN MACHINERY (Times Special Reporter) NGARUAWAHIA, Wednesday Stating that access to back country was an important factor in making increased production possible, Mr F. C. Johnstone suggested at the monthly meeting of the Raglan County Council to-day that the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, should be approached with a view to obtaining a Government subsidy on the use of modern roadmaking machinery on farms. On many farms in the county, said Mr Johnstone, top-dressing on back country could be carried out only by packing fertilisers, which was a costly matter. With even a roughlyformed road top-dressing would be greatly facilitated with a consequent improvement in production. By modern machinery such as the county possessed this work could be done at a fraction of the cost of ordinary labouring means. “ Where it does not interfer with county works I think our machines should certainly be allowed to go on to farms to assist in this way," said the chairman, Mr H. .W. Wilson. The councit decided to leave it to the engineer. Mr K. M. Wright, to approach the Minister.
