As a result of tests by ornithologists near Turin, it has been established that swallows can fly at 108.5 m.p.h. A mother was taken from her nest and put in a cage with an identity mark attached to her foot. She was carried by car 79 miles in a direct line, and released. She was home again in 43} minutes.
