KEEN INQUIRY

BIG CLEARING SALE CROWD OF 1200 ATTENDS An estimated crowd of 1200 attended the clearing sale held on behalf of Drs. Rogers and Hiskens on their farm, Te Kawa. Some 400 cars had to be parked in a neighbouring paddock. The sale was conducted by Newton King, Ltd, with Mr Arthur Smith, of Te Awamutu, and Mr V. S. Hislop, of Hamilton, in the rostrum. Keen interest was aroused in the sale and the whole of the big offering of sundries, implements, horses, pigs, sheep and cattle was put through in the good time of hours, despite the difficulties at times created by the large crowd all anxious to see what was being offered. Dairy Cows in Demand The herd of 75 dairy cows, which were a quality lot in first-class condition, attracted keen competition from a large bench of buyers, the average over all being £ll ss. Nearly every cow brought double figures, top price being £l4 10s. Buyers were present from Te Aroha, Taupiri, Waimiha, Hamilton, Cambridge and Otorohanga. The offering of 465 ewes and lambs which were sold in lots, created strong competition, the first lot to be offered bringing 16s 6d all counted, the second lot 15s 7d, and the third lot 13s 6d all counted, with some black-face hoggets bringing up to 16s.

The pigs met with keen competition, a particularly nice sow and litter realising £ll 10s, others £7 to £9, with sows to farrow £4 10s to £6 16s. A line of stores brought £2 6s with weaners from 17s to 22s 6d. The horses, which were particularly light, sold from £lO 10s to £l4, with a mare and foal realising £23. The huge array of implements and sundries created outstanding interest and on all lots competition was extremely keen with a Fordson tractor realising £l5O, Howard rotary hoe £BO, John Deere mower £39, side delivery rake £34, milking plant £lO3. Sundries sold in advance of recent clearing sale rates.
