SALE OF PRODUCE

DAIRY PROSPECTS ANNOUNCEMENT SHORTLY (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Negotiations between the Governments of the United Kingdom and New Zealand for the sale of the Dominion's surplus primary products were reviewed by the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, in a statement to-night. The Minister dealt briefly with butter and cheese, wool, meat and hides and skins. Judging from the latest cablegrams received, he thought ne .could say that there was very little chance that the price to be paid by the United Kingdom for butter and cheese would cover the New Zealand guaranteed price at f.0.b., Mr Nash said. Cablegrams were still being exchanged, and he was hopeful that it would be possible to make a final announcement with regard to both butter and cheese within the next few days. Marketing of Meat “ Negotiations are still proceeding for the sale of edible offal and canned meat, and I hope that they will be completed in the next few days,” Mr Nash said, when discussing meat prices. Ageement had been reached on some points. There had also been frequent conferences with interested parties to determine the most practicable methods of marketing under war conditions. An early announcement of decisions would be made. The basis to be approved should enable the freezing companies to commence at once, he added. Buying schedules should be received in the ordinary way. As far as hides and skins were concerned, the position was not so clearly denned, Mr Nash said. It was appreciated that the position was causing considerable inconvenience to interested organisations, but a statement would be made as soon as negotiations were complete. He expected that the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, would say something about sheepskins in the next few days.
