METHODIST CHURCH SOCIAL There was a large attendance in the Waitoa Hall recently, the occasion being the annual social and silver tree organised by members of the Waitoa Methodist Church, the proceeds being in aid of circuit funds. The programme opened with an anthem rendered by the Ladies’ Guild accompanied by Mrs F. Brown (piano) and Miss J. Luxton (violin). Items were given by Miss P. Luxton (humorous monologue), Mrs T. Qualtrough (solos), Eastport Road Church Choir (anthems), Miss E. Lilley and Mr P. C. McNeill (humorous sketch), Mrs F. Brown (songs), Rev. R. W. Mayson (humorous recitation), Miss E. Horn (songs). Supper was served at the, conclu-
sion of the programme by the ladies of the guild. Red Meeting The Waitoa branch of the Red Cross Society held its first meeting in the Waitoa Hall recently, Mrs ,T. Wathen presiding. Mrs Wathen, who is also a member of the Te Aroha branch, gave* a brief outline of the proceedings of the meeting held in Te Aroha recently, and it was decided to purchase requirements for the Waitoa branch through the central body at Te Aroha. Mrs M. Mac Lean" was appointed delegate to the Te Aroha branch. Arrangements were finalised in regard to the executive committee, those appointed being the president, vice-pre-sident, Mrs R. Walker; secretary, Mrs M. Maclean; and Mesdames H. Kerr, J. Lynch and A. Jonnston.
