PETROL RATIONING
MAY BE REIMPOSED HON. D. G. SULLIVAN'S WARNING NEED FOR PRECAUTION (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday The possibility o£ the Government tc having to reimpose the petrol ration- Q ing scheme should difficulties be met h in procuring fresh and regular sup- t« plies was mentioned by the Minister tl of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in n commenting to-day on a recent let- j* ter to the press. “ The introduction of the restrictions,” said the Minister | m defending the Government’s earlier b action, “ was a course which any prudent Government would adopt jf under the circumstances, and until £ we were assured of regular and frequent supplies some such steps were absolutely necessary. “People are now no doubt fully acquainted with the Government’s c proposals on future supplies of motor spirit, and I feel certain that the statement that the restrictions will be lifted in December will be much appreciated by all motorists. The position generally will be closely watched a from time to time, and as long as regular supplies keep coming forward the public may be assured that the j. restrictions will not be reimposed. Should difficulties be experienced, v however, in procuring regular supplies, the Government will have to give consideration to the reimposition of the rationing scheme.” -TTTM : --JUEA- l
