ANTI-AIR RAID DRIVE
LONDON ON THE QUI VIVE EVANS OF THE BROKE KEEP DEFENCE CHIEFS BUSY (Times Air Mail Service) LONDON, Oct. 12 Admiral Sir Edward R. G. R. Evans, better known as “Evans of the Broke,” is keeping London's A.R.P. busy. He was appointed one of the Civil Defence Regional Commissioners for London in April. Now he is dashing about Greater London pretending to be an air raid. He descends suddenly upon the headquarters of a district and calls for the local defence chiefs and a map. Pointing to the map he says: “That railway bridge is down. That row of houses has been bombed. There are fires here, and here, and there. One hundred and fifty casualties in these streets. Now get to work.” At once ambulance and fire squads, stretcher parties and decontamination centres spring into activity.
