RECEIVED STOLEN NOTE
NINE MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday Found guilty of knowingly receiving a £5 note that had been stolen from the Runciman post office, Arthur Dominic Plunkett, clerk, aged 40, appeared for sentence before Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court today. | On his behalf Mr Henry said | prisoner had some previous convictions, but apparently for some time I past he had been endeavouring to re- | habilitate himself. Unfortunately he j suffered from a severe physical disability in the loss of an arm, and this made it difficult for him to obtain j suitable employment. ! His Honour said prisoner had a j very bad record, and on October 17 ; of last year he was convicted on four I charges and on October 18 on three charges. He was released on license j on August 4, and this offence was I committed about August 29. The ] probation officer reported in his ] favour that he had made an earnest i effort to obtain suitable employment. He was at the time in receipt j of sustenance. His Honour said he | would make the sentence a light one ] in view of the accused’s record, and j impose a term of nine months’ imj prisonment.
