TOPICS OF THE DAY

Britain in War-time The very dismal picture of Britain painted by the German wireless belongs to the eccentric school of art, says the London Times. We may be blacked-out, but in other respects we are not so black as we are painted. London is not, as the Nazis say, starving; far from it. Some of the regulations at first imposed are now relaxed. The motorist is allowed a little more light at night, and the pedestrian a hand torch; both under strict conditions. Theatres and cinemas have been reopened far and wide. The Zoo can be visited. The British Museum again offers its facilities to readers. The London Library carries on. Though racing is off for the present, football of the “friendly” kind can be seen. Altogether, whatever the German wireless may say, friends of Britain may be reassured. We are still eating and drinking; still amusing ourselves; settling down to the war, however long it may last.
